How to plan a laundry room

A good laundry room is about fitting the machines, a sink, and some storage into a tight footprint while leaving room to actually load, unload, and fold. Draw your room to scale, drop the washer and dryer against a wall (or stack them to save floor space), and add a base cabinet run as a folding counter with wall cabinets above for detergent and supplies.

Leave about 36 inches of clear floor in front of front-loading machines so the doors can swing fully open, and a similar approach at a utility sink. The planner counts your cabinets and machines and shows a live cost range on the right as you go.

Frequently asked questions

Is the laundry planner really free?

Yes — free with no account or email. Drawing your room, placing appliances and cabinets, the cost estimate, and every export are all free.

How much space does a washer and dryer need?

Each machine is about 27 inches wide and 31 inches deep. Leave roughly 36 inches of clear floor in front of front-loaders so the doors swing open, and about an inch of air gap between and behind machines.

Can I open the plan in CAD software?

Yes — the DXF export writes standard AutoCAD R12 with layers for walls, fixtures, and annotations, so it opens cleanly in LibreCAD, AutoCAD, and most CAD tools.

Does my plan get saved?

It autosaves in your browser and you can download a project file for a permanent copy. Nothing is uploaded to a server.
